The
Mi Casa Program has committed
$1 million dollars per month to be
applied to down payment and
closing cost assistance to the parents
of the children that are enrolled in the
DISD. Our focus will be to promulgate
FHA loans since they work in conjunction
with the Mi Casa funding and the loans
are easier to obtain approval for
the prospective homebuyer.
There
are currently 158,000 students in
the district, 62% of whom are Hispanic
and 30% are African-American. As the
parents become homeowners this will
create stability in the home, increase
test scores, enhance the tax base
and ultimately reduce the dropout rate.
Our
outreach programs consist of
communicating the program to
the parents through DISD
Parent Academies, teacher’s groups
and PTA’S. |
